Mazatlán’s waters are rich in diverse fish species, from marlin and tuna to snapper and highly-coveted swordfish.
Summer is peak season for deep-sea fishing, and in May, the arrival of mahi-mahi marks the most action-packed time of year on the water. During the winter, fishing is concentrated on the coast as species retreat from the cooling water to the shore. Shore fishing is ideal for those who prefer shorter days, or who aren’t as accustomed to fishing at sea.
Among the best places for freshwater fishing in Mazatlán are Picacho’s Lake and El Salto Lake, the latter of which is known for its abundance of swordfish.
